During a trip to do some photography in Rutherford over 30 years ago, Jack Cakebread realized he had a goal of owning a vineyard. A casual comment by a friend who owned a nearby farm led to Jack purchasing the land, and Cakebread Cellars was born.

Over the years they’ve added to the family’s estate vineyard collection throughout Napa Valley and Anderson Valley, totaling 16 vineyards or 1,600 acres, approximately 600 of which are planted to vine. Representing an array of cooler and warmer sites along both the valley floor and steep hillsides, each site lends a distinct personality to the wines, giving greater diversity, complexity and unparalleled quality.
