With a long history of popular and classic red wines, Bordeaux-centric blends have extended their reach to every edge of the world. Originating in France, Bordeaux Blends normally have a base of Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and are further blended by a Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.
Bordeaux blends are typically dry, with a medium to full bodied flavor and aroma. Some common notes from a Bordeaux blend include earthy tones, plum, black currant, violet, and dark wood. Its high tannins make for a wine that will nicely age for several decades.
Having a dry and slightly tannic taste lends to a wine that pairs well with fatty meats and flavorful proteins, along with strong cheeses, and deliciously seasoned vegetables.
