Tasting Notes For Sine Qua Non Eleven Confessions Syrah 2020
Sine Qua Non Eleven Confessions Grenache 2020 is a breathtaking example of the winery’s commitment to crafting bold, expressive, and age-worthy wines. Sourced exclusively from the revered Eleven Confessions Vineyard, this Grenache-based masterpiece is blended with small amounts of Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Viognier, creating a wine that is both seductively opulent and beautifully balanced. As with all of Sine Qua Non’s limited releases, the 2020 vintage is a true collector’s item, showcasing the extraordinary terroir and meticulous craftsmanship that define the estate.
In the glass, the 2020 Eleven Confessions Grenache presents a deep ruby-purple hue, hinting at its power and concentration. The nose is explosively aromatic, offering a luxurious bouquet of ripe black raspberries, wild strawberries, kirsch, and plum compote, interwoven with rose petals, crushed violets, exotic spices, and a touch of garrigue. Subtle undertones of white pepper, smoked herbs, and dark cocoa add layers of intrigue, making every swirl of the glass an evolving experience. On the palate, this wine is rich, full-bodied, and texturally stunning, with silky, ultra-fine tannins and a vibrant core of juicy red and black fruits. The balance between ripe opulence and fresh acidity creates a seamless flow across the palate, leading into a long, mineral-laced finish with hints of licorice, spice, and toasted vanilla.
While the 2020 Eleven Confessions Grenache is incredibly expressive in its youth, it has the structure and depth to age gracefully for 15–20 years, gaining even more complexity over time. Those who can resist the temptation to open it now will be rewarded with an evolving tapestry of flavors and aromas. Perfect for pairing with herb-crusted lamb, roasted duck, or rich Mediterranean dishes, this Grenache is a testament to Sine Qua Non’s relentless pursuit of perfection—a wine that captivates from the first sip to the last.

Jeb Dunnuck Review - Rated 100:
The 2020 Grenache Eleven Confessions Vineyard is another absolutely heavenly wine from this estate, and it's easily one of the top wines from California in 2020. Darker berries, tapenade, roasted herbs, and a bloody, iron-like character define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, stacked mid-palate, velvety tannins, and a great, great finish. It reminds me of a Châteauneuf du Pape from the likes of Jean-Paul Daumen and is a tour de force in Grenache that I wish every reader could taste. Coming from a hot growing season, this beauty is powerful and full throttle, yet like all of Manfred's wines, it holds onto a sense of purity, balance, and elegance that's something to behold. Drink bottles any time over the coming two decades. The blend is 82% Grenache, 13% Syrah, 3% Petite Sirah, and the rest Gelber Muskateller, fermented with 27% whole clusters, and aged 38 months in 41% new French oak.
