Rare Millesime Brut 2013 (750 ml) Tasting Notes
Critic Ratings
White pepper, yellow apple, pineapple and linden blossom are joined by coconut, toast, roasted nuts and a touch of honey. Pinpoint bubbles and crisp acidity give the medium-bodied Champagne excellent integration and drive. Lemon flavors carry into a long, chalky and mineral finish with an appealingly austere edge.
This mature Champagne balances dryness, density and generous fruit with notable finesse. Its poised, tense structure keeps the wine energetic even as developed flavors emerge. The combination of maturity and precision makes it ready to enjoy now.
From the cool, late-ripening 2013 vintage, this Champagne opens with white flowers, passion fruit, buttered toast, lemon oil and subtle smoky reduction. The bright, tightly wound palate combines a crisp fruit core, racy acidity and pillowy mousse before a long saline finish. Leaner and slower to unfold than the 2012, it should blossom with additional bottle age.
