Ponzi Laurelwood District Pinot Noir 2022 (750 ml) Tasting Notes
Ponzi Vineyards' 2022 Laurelwood District Pinot Noir comes from the northern ridge of Oregon's Willamette Valley, where windblown loess lies over fractured volcanic basalt. Fruit from Avellana, Aurora, Linda Vista, Gemini, and Chehalem Crossing brings together sites that are LIVE Certified Sustainable and rooted in Laurelwood soils.
After a disruptive spring frost, the 2022 growing season finished with a strong summer and a dry, warm October that allowed the fruit to ripen fully. Ponzi fermented the wine in small lots with regular cap work, then aged it for ten months in French oak, using thirty percent new barrels, followed by additional bottle aging before release.
Ponzi's vintage-specific notes combine warm raspberry, peppery spice, flinty smoke, and red-clay minerality with rose, magnolia, and clove. Dark tannins carry cola, white pepper, star anise, cardamom, and juniper across the palate before a blue-fruit finish. The producer suggests pairings such as seared duck, porcini risotto, or beet and lentil salad.
