Dominus Estate Bordeaux 2011 (750 ml) Tasting Notes
Dominus Estate is the Napa Valley property of Bordeaux producer Christian Moueix. The wine is bottled from the historic Napanook Vineyard. Located at the foothills of the Mayacamas, the vineyard was planted in 1838 and continues to evolve under the stewardship of Christian Moueix. The estate’s Bordeaux varietals benefit from the Yountville microclimate where temperatures are moderated by cool breezes from the San Pablo Bay. The resulting wine is a uniquely refined expression of this special terroir.
Perfectly balanced, Dominus 2011 maintains focus on the palate with aromas of sweet blue fruit, jasmine, cardamom, layers of plum and caramel. The wine finishes very long with lift and acceleration.
Critic Ratings
Wine & Spirits Review - Rated 94:
Wine & Spirits praised the 2011 Dominus as a remarkable result from a cool, rain-challenged vintage. Red raspberry and floral aromas lead into green herb, tobacco, cassis, and raspberry flavors held in lasting harmony. Its sophisticated but gentle structure should allow graceful aging while remaining approachable along the way.
James Suckling Review - Rated 93:
James Suckling notes tobacco, currant, berry, mineral, ink, and lead-pencil aromas in the 2011 Dominus. The full-bodied palate combines firm tannins with attractive texture and a notably fresh finish. Although less powerful than the preceding vintage, it remains an excellent and well-balanced expression.
