Tasting Notes and Description
Tasting Notes For Domaine Philippe Girard Pommard Vieilles Vigne 2020
Domaine Philippe Girard Pommard Vieilles Vignes 2020 comes from the celebrated Pommard appellation in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, an area renowned for producing some of the region’s most robust and age-worthy Pinot Noirs. Sourced from old vines, this “Vieilles Vignes” bottling offers depth, concentration, and a true sense of terroir. In the glass, it reveals a deep ruby color with aromatic layers of dark cherry, blackberry, and subtle violet, underscored by notes of warm spice and a hint of earthiness. The old-vine fruit lends a natural intensity, while the domaine’s traditional winemaking approach ensures purity and elegance.
On the palate, the wine is structured and full-bodied yet balanced, delivering ripe black fruit flavors wrapped in fine-grained tannins. Gentle oak influence adds complexity without overshadowing the vibrant fruit character. The finish is long and refined, with lingering spice and mineral notes that speak to its Burgundian origins. While approachable now with proper decanting, this Pommard will reward cellaring for 8–12 years. Ideal pairings include roasted lamb, duck breast with cherry glaze, or aged cheeses such as Comté or Époisses.
