Tasting Notes and Description

Tasting Notes For El Enemigo Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2017

El Enemigo Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2017 is a beautifully crafted wine that showcases the best of Argentine winemaking. It boasts a deep purple color with red highlights, and its intense and elegant aromas are sure to impress. The wine's complex flavor profile is a result of the careful blending of Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and other Bordeaux varieties. The Cabernet Franc contributes sweet spices, black pepper, and light notes of eucalyptus and thyme, while the Malbec adds ripe black fruits such as blackberries and black cherries. The oak aging provides a subtle touch of chocolate and vanilla, resulting in a well-balanced and nuanced wine.

This wine is a perfect accompaniment to grilled meats, and its structured tannins and long, persistent finish make it an excellent match for a variety of cheeses. Made in honor of the old Pomerol style, El Gran Enemigo SV Gualtallary is a testament to the skill and dedication of Argentine winemakers.

Critic Ratings

Robert Parker Wine Advocate Review - Published 31st Mar 2021 - Rated 98:
The 2017 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard didn't show any heat or excess ripeness from a warm and dry year. On the contrary, it's austere and has citrus acidity, with great freshness and minerality. The palate is super austere with vibrant acidity—by far the highest among the Gran Enemigo bottlings—and very fine, chalky tannins. This is remarkable, serious, balanced and fresh with a very, very long and salty finish. This fermented in barrels with 100% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in centenary oak foudres for 15 months. 3,000 bottles were filled in July 2018. - Luis Gutiérrez

Wine Enthusiast Review - Rated 91:
The aromatic nose shows notes of cumin, green bell pepper and red fruit. Medium- to full-bodied, the palate features chalky tannins and lively acidity, structuring the juicy cherry and red plum flavors. A touch of sweet spice adds complexity. The finish is medium in length and has a pleasant fresh aftertaste.

James Suckling Review - Published May 5, 2021 - Rated 97:
Pretty aromas of plum, blueberry, rose hip, lavender, sandalwood and oyster shell. It’s medium-to full-bodied with silky, seamless tannins. So pure and elegant with gorgeous layers of cool blue fruit. Saline and coffee notes, too. Long and evolving. Drink or hold.
