Tasting Notes For Pio Cesare Barolo Mosconi 2018 *** DAMAGED LABEL ***

The Pio Cesare Barolo Mosconi 2018 is a remarkable expression of the famed Mosconi vineyard in the Barolo region. With its deep ruby hue, this wine immediately captivates the eye. On the nose, an intricate bouquet unfolds, showcasing layers of dark fruit aromas, including blackberries and plums, intertwined with delicate hints of rose petals, licorice, and spice.

As you take the first sip, the palate is enveloped in a rich tapestry of flavors, where the dark fruits seamlessly blend with notes of tobacco, leather, and a touch of tar. The wine's well-structured tannins provide a solid framework, promising the potential for graceful aging. Balancing this intensity is a refreshing acidity that contributes to the wine's overall harmony.

The finish is both powerful and persistent, leaving an enduring impression of the wine's depth and character. The Pio Cesare Barolo Mosconi 2018 embodies the essence of the terroir and the artistry of the winemaking process, making it a true testament to the elegance and complexity of Barolo wines.

Critic Ratings

James Suckling Review - Rated 97:

This is an exquisite 2018, with super-fine tannins that are totally integrated into the wine and spread across the palate. Full-bodied, yet so graceful and linear, with transparency and focus.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Review - Rated 95:
Compared to the Ornato, the 2018 Barolo Mosconi (with fruit from Monforte d'Alba) shows a tighter and more compact quality with a direct, linear and powerful approach. The bouquet builds in vertical intensity, starting with tart fruit aromas and culminating with tar, rusted nail and camphor ash. That aromatic ascent comes at you quickly, and the wine ultimately settles on a very wide, all-encompassing performance.

Wine Spectator Review - Rated 94:
Rich, with plum and cherry flavors, this Barolo also shows a savory side of eucalyptus, licorice and clove. Reveals viscosity to the texture as well as terrific balance. Ends with dense, refined tannins and lingering steeped fruit and savory notes. Best from 2025 through 2042.
